Now we're cookin' with gas!
Marvel's Iron Fist is perhaps the most anticipated Netflix show to launch this year, and it just got even better with the announcement of a major character to be included in the series.
Iron Fist's real name is Danny Rand (Finn Jones). As a little boy, he is on board a plane with his family when it crashes, causing him to land on the mystical city of K'un-Lun. It appears on Earth once every ten years, and Danny is raised by the monks who inhabit the city. As part of his training, Danny learns how to defeat the mystical dragon Shou-Lao and absorb some of his power to become the Immortal Iron Fist. This is the same power we've seen in the trailers in the form of the gold aura surrounding Danny's hands. Until now, we have not known if the Netflix series would use this traditional story or enlist their own, original back story for Danny.
Speaking with Empire Magazine, Finn Jones reveals that the dragon Shou-Lao is in fact in the series.
“Danny has to deal with society’s reaction. He comes back and says: ‘Hey, guess what? I’ve been in this place called K’un Lun for years, I’ve got this thing called the Iron Fist and I met a dragon!’ And everybody’s like, ‘What the fuck are you talking about? You’re insane.’”
This is the first that the dragon Shou-Lao has been officially mentioned for the series, but it's unknown as to whether he'll appear on screen or simply remain a back story. Iron Fist releases on Netflix on March 17th, so we're only a few weeks away. In the meantime, check out the list of episode titles and directors here.
