Iron Man 3 director’s Predator sequel still in the works

Please be good, please be good.

It turns out that the Predator film we heard about last year is still in production, according to producer John Davis. The sequel is set to be directed and written by Iron Man 3's Shane Blake and co-written by Monster Squad's Fred Dekker. The NBC producer had nothing but kind things to say about Blake and Decker, saying that Blake's was genius and it would "recreate the famous franchise."

That's a big statement, especially after Arnold Schwarzenegger (you know, the guy from the original) said that every sequel to the original has been a greed-filled travesty.

“Shane shot a movie and he’s doing a pilot now, but I’ve read a lot of his script and I think it’s genius. I think it’s genius and I think it’s entertaining, and what it did is recreate a famous franchise in a different, interesting way; looking at it from a different light. He’s just an amazing writer-director. He’s got a way of looking at this that makes you excited again. I love this franchise. It was the first movie I ever did. I remember in being in the jungle with Arnold[Schwarzenegger] as a 28-year-old and going, ‘This is a fun business!’…Shane’s amazing. He’s an amazing storyteller."

His praise didn't end with Shane however, he spared a breath for Dekker who is "great," but couldn't stop gushing about how the film would "reinvent" the franchise.

"Shane’s got a writing partner, Fred Dekker. They’ve been doing it together and Fred’s great. The two of them together, they’ve been in the business for a long time, but the writing is so fresh, the perspective is so fresh. I’m telling you you’re going to get something you don’t expect and you’re going to say, ‘This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.’ I mean he’s the guy who wrote Iron Man 3.”

The only thing left to do is hope that it's a worthwhile film. I can't help but feel a bit wary about it with the way Davis is talking about it… It's almost like he took a cue from the guy in Family Guy – replace the wallet with pictures with the word "reinvent."
