The actor that played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Ewan McGregor, has said that he would be interested in returning to the franchise for a spin-off film.
It is not surprising that McGregor would want to work on a Star Wars film again, given the success of The Force Awakens, however the possibility of a movie dedicated to Obi-Wan Kenobi could be an interesting prospect for fans.
Many of you might be wondering where about this film would fit into the Star Wars timeline, well, McGregor seems to have a suggestion.
During an interview with Collider, the actor said:
"I’d very much like to do one too. I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think there’s a story there. I think that’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one. The one that bridges my Obi-Wan Kenobi and Alec’s Obi-Wan Kenobi because there’s a- I don’t know how long he’s in the desert there, but it’s got to be twenty or thirty years."
While the cast was being drawn up for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, rumors started to appear about McGregor possibly appearing as a ghost in the film, or even at a later stage of the trilogy.
When pressed on a potential appearance in the future, he responded:
"I don’t know anything about it. I’m really not in the picture with the Star Wars trilogy. As far as I know, I would be Alec Guinness by now, so I don’t know how that would work. I really don’t know and I haven’t had any discussions with anyone about it.
To play Obi-Wan Kenobi again would be something I would love to do in one of the spinoff movies. If that were to happen in one of their trilogies, I would be up for that, but I don’t know how that would happen. I’m sure some of the Star Wars fans would come up with an idea of how that could happen."
So, it seems that one side of the deal is very optimistic about the possibility of a Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off, but McGregor is not the first actor to say that… and he probably won't be the last. But will Disney make a few spin-off movies? Guess we'll have to wait and see.
