Is Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 heading to Wii U?

Updated Call of Duty website suggests Wii U could be on Treyarch's radar

Every time a new Call of Duty game is announced, Nintendo fans are left with just one question: is it coming to Wii U? So far, no platforms have been announced for the newly revealed Black Ops 3, but you can assume it's coming to at least Xbox and PlayStation, and probably PC.

As for the Wii U? Well, looming uncertainty has turned into hope as GoNintendo spotted some very interesting details on the Call of Duty website that could suggest Black Ops 3 is heading to Wii U.

As the site points out, last year's website offered registered users just three consoles to link to their account: Xbox, PlayStation, and PC (Steam). This year, however, the Activision has added a spot for you to link your Nintendo Account (note: we also confirmed this). It's only speculation at this point, but why add a spot for your Nintendo Network ID if there are no plans to bring Black Ops 3 to Wii U?

Of course, we've been down this path before. Similar speculation arose with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare last year; however, the game never did release on Nintendo's platform. The heartbreak of missing out on another third party blockbuster title is all too familiar a story for Nintendo fans.

Activision never explained why they skipped out on Wii U with Advanced Warfare, but it could have something to do with the lackluster performance of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Ghosts on Nintendo's console. If the speculation is true, and Black Ops 3 is coming to Wii U, it's unclear what would have caused the change of heart. Perhaps the extra time has allowed the Wii U's player base to grow to a point where you won't have just 154 players online.
