Over the weekend, the composer of Jet Set Radio's soundtrack Hideki Naganuma tweeted out a simple image that got a lot of people excited. It was an image teasing the possibility of a new Jet Set Radio game.
It was a simple image post of the Graffitti Soul Sticker from Jet Set Radio Future, the followup to the original Jet Set Radio. It's been 14 years since JSRF released for the original Xbox in 2002 and the soundtrack remains a cult favorite to this day. With artists from bands such as The Beastie Boys, Scapegoat Wax and Guitar Vader, it caught people's attention as being a soundtrack not often heard in video games. It's fast paced, techno-centric themes were a mix of different genres such as hip-hop, house, rock and metal which all combined for a truly immersive experience.
The original Jet Set Radio was released on Sega Dreamcast in 2000 and it wasn't until 2012 that fans were finally able to play it on both Xbox 360 and PS3. It also served as one of the main inspirations of Insomniac Game's Sunset Overdrive on Xbox One. I don't want to get my hopes up because this may not be a new game after all. Naganuma is no longer an employee of Sega, and tweeted just two weeks ago to contact Sega and make your voices heard if you wanted a remake. On the other hand, only two weeks after do we get a simple tweet containing only an image.
It may be an HD remake. It may also be a vinyl release of the original soundtrack. It's anyone's guess at this point but lets hope it's something at all and not simply a troll tweet. We'll let you know what we find out.
