With a wildly successful sequel in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows — having made $540 million worldwide — it seems like there was no way that there wouldn't be a second sequel. Warner Bros. actually went ahead and hired Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce to do the screenplay in October. And then… nothing.
Thanks to an interview that Collider had with Jude Law recently, we at least have something to tell you. In response to a question about when they were going to start shooting Sherlock Holmes 3, Law said:
I mean, there's certainly talk of it, and I know there's a script being played around with, but Downey's a busy boy and I'm a busy boy, so we'll see. But we want to [do another one]. We're a very happy team and we have a lot of fun and we also think there's still a lot of legs in the duo.
Well, at least we know they'd like to do another, but when can it actually happen? As Law said, they're both busy. And I'm sure they each have a lot more offers on the table. So when is there enough time to squeeze in a second Sherlock Holmes sequel?
I guess for know, we'll all just have to get our 'kinda-Sherlock' fix with Elementary — a show starring Jonny Lee Miller (Dark Shadows) as a modern, re-imagined Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson, the female Watson, as they take on cases in modern New York City. Because that's better than the films Downey and Law have done…
