Is Treyarch teasing the next Call of Duty through Black Ops 2?

It appears Treyarch has started to tease the next installment in Activision’s Call of Duty series.

As spotted by numerous players, a small update to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 seemingly added mysterious posters to specific maps in the multiplayer portion of the game. The new posters, which were spotted on the Express and Plaza maps, show a woman posing with a ghost icon over it — one that looks quite similar to the icon used for Snapchat.

Turns out the images can be scanned, and if you do so it adds a Call of Duty-related account to your Snapchat friends list. It’s a short 10-second clip featuring grainy footage of a closing eye and a scene in a forest with a voice-over that says, “listen only to the sound of my voice.”

So is this some sort of viral marketing campaign for this year’s Call of Duty? It certainly would appear so as we’re about a month away from when Activision usually reveals the latest installment for the long-standing franchise.

Many are speculating that this year’s Call of Duty will be Black Ops 3, though right now there’s not much weight to it aside from the sub series’ link to Treyarch. The studio has already confirmed they are the ones making this year's Call of Duty.

If this is indeed a teaser for this year's Call of Duty, it's possible that a more official teaser could be revealed next month, as Activision typically waits until May to unveil the franchise's new game. Earlier this year, Xbox community manager Raj Patel tweeted an image that when analyzed revealed suggested a new Call of Duty will be unveiled on May 4, 2015 at 10am PDT, 1pm EST.

The teaser didn't mention Call of Duty, but the specific date along with the usual "Presented by Xbox" suggests it'll be Call of Duty. As for the image itself, well, it seemed to hint more towards a World at War sequel. As you may know, Treyarch also handles development of that sub series.
