Over the past few weeks Insomniac Games' Brandon Winfrey, through weekly Sunset TV episodes, has explained a number of individual systems in Sunset Overdrive. This included weapons, traversal, amps, sidequests, etc.
This week, it's time to bring it all together in a combo counter which you'll see in the top right corner of your game. Basically, you increase your combo counter in a number of ways: chaining traversal together, getting kills, and, most importantly, doing both at once. As Winfrey explains, you're going to want to always be moving and always be killing to add to this combo counter.
Why, though? "The higher your combo counter, the faster your style meter is going to rise," he explains. "And again, that's what unlocks your special amp abilities."
A few things to note: 1) being on the ground for a few seconds without getting a kill will reset your counter to zero; 2) the higher your style meter, the faster it's going to decrease.
"Stay moving and stay shooting. Do not just stay on the ground," Winfrey suggests. "A lot of the momentum of the core combat revolves around you playing stylishly and skillfully, so don't be boring."
