It looks like the PlayStation 4 will be around for a long time

The PlayStation 4 will not be an ephemeral gaming console, once it releases it will be here for the next eight years plus.

In an interview with CVG Shuhei Yoshida, the man that manages several of Sony's game studios, said that the PS4 has "room for growth in both game content and system features." The ability for growth in the PS4 comes from the fact that it has 8GB and no launch title will need that much.

Yoshida went on to say, "this enlarged, very fast memory allows us in the future to improve and add more new features. And at the same time we are continuing to invest and add on the online services so that three years from now the PS4 will be much, much better than PS4 this holiday – and that was the case on PS3 and PS Vita."

The PS3 was launched in 2006 and has sold around 77 million units since launch. Yoshida is saying that the PS4 will have a similar lifespan to the PS3 which is nice, that allows people to build big game libraries without having to switch consoles every few years.

If Sony plans to support the PS3 for a couple more years it might be worth holding off on buying a next-gen console at launch. That might take a lot of willpower, but they are promising that the PS4 will evolve over time (and you can wait for an awesome bundle).
