I was thinking of downloading New Super Mario Bros. 2 when it launches on the eShop later this month. Sure, you could go out and buy the game at your local games retailer, but if you snag the digital version, you'll also receive 100 Club Nintendo Coins! That's just plain awesome!
You know what's not awesome, though? The fact it may take longer than 45 minutes to download the darn game! Siliconera put the game to the test and downloaded New Super Mario Bros. 2 using a US code on a US region 3DS. This is pretty much the version we're getting here in North America on August 19, and it took 46 minutes and 23 seconds to download.
Now, I don't know how speedy the internet Siliconera was using actually was, but my internet connection is pretty average. It's not the fastest for downloads, but I can enjoy multiplayer gaming without any lag. But again, I'm no stranger to lengthy downloads on my Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, so it kind of worries me that I may be waiting a ridiculous amount of time to get Mario's latest 2D adventure.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a 340MB game. A 46-minute download is quite a wait, especially for the more impatient gamers out there. Then again, how long would it take for you to just go out and buy it the game? About the same? I think I'll just risk the lengthy download time and go for the digital version. I mean, 100 Coins!
