It sure looks like Borderlands 3 will be unveiled this month

The creators of the Borderlands franchise are teasing something special for later this. In a Tweet from the company account, it certainly looks like that special something is going to be Borderlands 3 and that it will be unveiled later this month, on March 28th in Boston, MA.

The Borderlands games have long become synonymous as looter-shooters way ahead of their time. Combining the addictive weapon collecting with the ever-popular first-person-shooting genre turned out to be a golden ticket towards mainstream success for Gearbox. The Borderlands games quickly went on to become the studio’s biggest hit. So, it comes as little surprise that the team would release Borderlands 3. We already knew that the majority of Gearbox was hard at work on BL3 almost two years ago, so if anything, it’s more surprising that it took Gearbox so long to finally unveil the game properly. It’s been a massive five years since the last game in the series appeared, and that was just a spin-off.

That long wait is now coming to a close if we are to believe a recent Tweet by the studio. While not name-dropping Borderlands 3 at all, the image showing a road sign simply stating the date and place to look out for, is done in a cell-shaded style. The very same artistic style the Borderlands games are famous for. And if there’s still a shard of doubt left whether it is indeed going to be Borderlands 3, just take a closer look at the image in the Tweet. At the top-right you’ll see a small “Exit 3” sign very clearly being a play at a third numbered title.

This all leaves very little doubt what fans can expect come March 28th. It’s highly likely going to be Borderlands 3. What else is happening on that date in Boston? It’s the start of PAX East, the large gaming expo where Gearbox has a history of unveiling games.
