J.J. Abrams Will Write And Direct Star Wars: Episode IX

He giveth and he taketh away (Or at least closes the series.)

J.J. Abrams directed The Force Awakens in 2015, only to hand the reigns off to other directors for the following sequels. However, it turns out that he'll be returning to bookend the trilogy by directing and co-writing the final film, the currently unnamed Star Wars: Episode IX.

He will co-write it with Chris Terrio, produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Bad Robot, Lucasfilm and Abrams himself. Other directors took the helm for The Last Jedi and Rogue One, and Ron Howard is manning the director's chair for the untitled Han Solo movie.

“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
