J.K. Rowling confirms 5 Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films, third film could release in 2020

Harry Potter himself may be sitting in a reclining chair, reading the newspaper everyday while his son is off at a school doing wizard things but that doesn't mean there aren't other stories to tell in the wizarding world. The upcoming film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the first film from the iconic universe since 2011 and will be the first story that doesn't focus around Harry Potter and his gang of friends.

The story is based off a 128 page book written by J.K. Rowling in 2001 and centers around the unique creatures in the Harry Potter universe! As previously mentioned, the book is only 128 pages so it would make sense that they would only be able to adapt that into one film, right? Wrong!

Creator of the Harry Potter universe, J.K. Rowling, revealed at a fan event that Warner Bros. is developing at least 5 Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films! "I'm pretty sure that there are going to be five movies, now that I've been able to properly plot them out. We always knew that there would be more than one." said Rowling.

This comes a few months after we got confirmation that just one sequel would be coming in November 2018, directed by Fantastic Beasts director and Harry Potter veteran, David Yates. Rowling has also been confirmed to write the first two films in the new series and will more than likely go on to continue to write the future installments.

Warner Bros. also announced today that they have two "event" films planned for 2019 and 2020. If Warner Bros. chooses to follow a two year release cycle, Fantastic Beasts 3 could release on November 1st, 2020. It would certainly make sense if they plan to annualize the series for every other November!

It seems like Warner Bros. will be focused on making Fantastic Beasts films so we may not see a film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the most recent Harry Potter story which is a play centered around Harry's life as an adult, for quite a while.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them releases on November 18th, 2016.
