J.K. Rowling has written a Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them sequel

Already!

Film Director David Yates has revealed that J.K. Rowling has completed the first sequel for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

This announcement might shock a few people as it comes just months before the first movie's release date, November of this year, however it does indicate a certain degree of confidence surrounding the project.

Speaking to Reuters, Yates said: "We've done the first one. She's written the second one, she's got ideas for the third one."

After years of working on the Harry Potter books, it would seem that J.K. Rowling is chomping at the bit to get her teeth into something else. And, while it's still based around the worlds of witchcraft and wizardry, new characters do come into the fray… which could make things interesting.

Whether its Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or even something like Game of Thrones, when big books are re-created on-screen a lot of detail can escape during the transition. But, it seems that shouldn't be an issue this time around.

"When we adapted the books, you would always have to leave out things – that you hated leaving out – because they didn't quite work within the structure of the storytelling for the movie, or the movie would just be far too long," Yates said. "With this, it's just pure Jo from the first page to the last page."

It is unknown which direction the movie will take but what we do know, at this stage, is that the famous Albus Dumbledore character from the Harry Potter series will be making his return during the spin-off trilogy.
