Jake Gyllenhaal says no to Suicide Squad

That's strike two

After Tom Hardy dropped out of Warner Bros.' Suicide Squad, there were rumors that Jake Gyllenhaal was being approached for the role Hardy abandoned — Rick Flag. Well, Warner Bros. still has to fill that role, because sources are telling Variety that Jake Gyllenhaal has passed on it.

Based on DC Comics characters, the David Ayer-directed film follows a group of Batman villains recruited by the government to perform dangerous black ops missions. Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.

Warner Bros. had no comment on Gyllenhaal saying no to the role. He currently has multiple films releasing in 2015, including Everest, Demolition and Southpaw.

Suicide Squad is set to open on August 5, 2016.
