A Chinese indie studio has revealed Black Myth: Wu Kong. The single-player action-adventure title focuses on fast and fluid gameplay with insane production values. Check out the impressive game in action in the newly released 13-minute gameplay trailer!
Black Myth: Wu Kong is the title of indie developer Game Science. While the trailer is mostly in Chinese without even English subtitles, the important part you ought to pay attention to is anything but the story or what is being talked about.
Instead, it’s the visuals and gameplay itself that makes this one a game to absolutely keep on your radar. It’s no understatement to say Wu Kong is arguably one of the most impressive next-gen showpieces out there at the moment.
Even the website is only in Chinese and with the game taking a traditional Chinese tale as its inspiration. Journey to the West might night ring a bell instantly but there are plenty of other movies, games, and shows that have taken cues from the same tale. Popular anime series Dragon Ball and Jackie Chan’s 2008 movie The Forbidden Kingdom are just a few notable mentions.
The good news is Black Myth: Wu Kong is already confirmed to launch on PC and consoles but no release window has been stated yet. It’s fair to assume the Game Science Studios is targeting next-gen consoles.
Similarities to the Souls series might crop up but closer inspection of the gameplay footage shows a much bigger focus on narrative alongside combat mechanics that lean towards the Devil May Cry franchise.
