Kevin Smith, director of Clerks and Mallrats, is collaborating with Interabang Entertainment to produce the first Jay and Silent Bob themed game.
The project is currently being crowdfunded via Fig and has already amassed almost $50,000 towards its goal of $400,000, which is planned to be met by the end of March. The gameplay is designed as a side scroller, multi-player beat-em-up taking place in the "View Askew-niverse". It will feature a combat style a kin to Godhand or Marvel vs Capcom, but with a similar co-op mechanic to Donkey Kong Country. The game will also feature a "Convo Combat" element, allowing players to interact with characters in ways that actually affect the progression of gameplay. Conversations could lead to either the next fight, severe pshychological damage, or even an unlikely friendship, depending on your temperment.
Keeping in the same vein of the films featuring the degenerate duo, Chronic Blunt Punch will feature voice over work from not only Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, but also the talents of other actors featured in Smith's movies in order to maintain the same continuity, all the while providing the same vulgar stoner humor we've come to love.
If you plan on supporting this project, the rewards are substantial! The swag available for backers range from a pat on the head email and game credit to t-shirts, copies of the game, exclusive vinyl figures modeled after the game characters, designing an enemy to be used in the actual game, even a walk-on role in Kevin Smith's next movie!
Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch will be available on Steam, with hopes of eventual ports to Playstation 4 and X-Box One.
