Continuity and the X-Men universe aren't two things that go together in the films. Between the first X-Men trilogy, a Wolverine solo film and X-Men: First Class, there's more loopholes than… something that has a lot of loopholes. Things states in the first X-Men film are disregarded in First Class. Wolverine f**ked with everyone's timeline, and with the introduction of time travel into the next X-Men: Days of Future Past, I'm curious to see just how much more confusing it'll all get.
Then we have The Wolverine — Logan's second solo film. According to We Got This Covered, we're going to see a familiar face make a cameo in the film. That face was last seen dying in Wolverine's arms at the end of X-Men: The Last Stand the worst Marvel film to date. That's right, Jean Grey — not Phoenix — is said to have filmed a cameo role in the upcoming The Wolverine, played by Famke Janssen.
The Wolverine takes place prior to the events in The Last Stand, so let's see how much more continuity gets thrown out the window. How can you kill Cyclops… seriously.
Anyways, Janssen has reently commented on her possible return to the X-Men universe with Matthew Vaughn's Days of Future Past, which has time travel. She said, "One never knows […] Jean Grey, the Phoenix… she finds a way to reincarnate herself constantly, so one never knows. Stay tuned."
The Wolverine releases July 26, 2013.
