Jenna Coleman quits Doctor Who series

After months of speculation Jenna Coleman has now confirmed her departure from the iconic Doctor Who series, however she might have to use the tardis again in the near future.

The former Emmerdale star, 29, has landed a huge role playing the part of Queen Victoria in an upcoming ITV drama, an eight-part series that will be based in the 19th century. The name of the drama is in fact "Victoria," so one can only presume that Coleman has also landed the biggest role on offer – impressive.

For those that are not aware, Jenna Coleman has played the part of Clara Oswald in BBC's Doctor Who series for the last three years. Clara is often referred to as the Doctor's companion – much like many of her predecessors – and we understand that the fan favourite will bow out during this year's Christmas special.

The series' fans have grown accustomed to rapid changes in the character line-up in recent years, which feeds in nicely with the concept of the Doctor's regeneration. A shake-up of actors and actresses is very common in the series, but it must be said, Jenna Coleman and Matt Smith (former Doctor) will be dearly missed for some time among the show's faithful.

Coleman spoke about her time in the sci-fi series earlier this week during a quick chat with the Radio Times. When pressed on her potential departure she said: "You're in Doctor Who knowing it will never last.

"It's constantly regenerating, so you want to make your time count and enjoy the adventure for the fleeting time you're here" she added.

As we previously said, speculation surrounding Coleman leaving the show has been escalating for the last few months, and this news probably doesn't come as a shock to many people. However, she will feature in the new and upcoming ninth series of Doctor Who, which will be starting on the 19th September. (Trailer below)
