In 2011 we saw Jennifer Lawrence take on the role of the shapeshifting Mystique in the X-Men prequel series that started off with X-Men: First Class. Last year, Lawrence highlighted the X-Men: Days of Future Past film, but it seems as though her reign as the iconic blue shapeshifter is coming to a close.
Lawrence will reprise her role as Mystique one final time in X-Men: Apocalypse, but after that she is done with the series. The announcement of her exit from the series came in the form of a very direct statement to MTV News when questioned on whether or not Apocalypse was the last installment in the series, “It is my last one, actually.”
While Mystique and Lawrence fans quietly wipe away tears, there are plenty of new X-Men to look forward to. Though they aren't technically "new" per se, Nightcrawler (played by Kodi Smit-McPhee) is joining in on Apocalypse and there is a new Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey trio making their way into the film as well.
Whether or not this will be the last film in the rebooted series remains a mystery (at least to my knowledge).
