Jeremy McGrath to donate game profit to bone marrow charity

Apart from being a world motocross champion, Jeremy McGrath enjoys endorsing videogames, specifically ones with his name on. McGrath’s latest project, Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad, received a warm welcome on XBLA. The real story, though, is McGrath’s pledge to donate a considerable amount of the game’s profits to a bone marrow website that helped his cancer-stricken wife find a marrow match.

Kim McGrath, who had battle with breast cancer several years ago, received word earlier in 2012 that she had a form of Leukemia, though it could be treated through a bone marrow transplant. During her grueling chemotherapy sessions and lengthy hospital stays, the McGraths’ began working with website BetheMatch.org, and its parent organization The National Marrow Donor Program, to raise awareness of the disease and to hopefully find a match to treat Kim.

In a seemingly picture perfect ending, Kim McGrath was able to find a bone marrow match and in response to the vital role Be The Match played in her road to recovery, Jeremy McGrath has announced that he’ll be donating a “substantial” amount of profit from his off-road arcade title to BetheMatch.org. The following blurb came from a press release sent out yesterday:

"First, thank you again to everyone who has helped, donated, gotten tested and sent well-wishes to our family.  Your responses to my initial call to action have been incredible and the support and love just seems to continue to pour in,” said Jeremy McGrath.  “The fact that Kim found a match is really great news for us, but it is our hope that people will still get tested and join the Be the Match Registry.  I would also ask that companies that have charitable donation programs and those in the position to do something, please think about making a donation to Be The Match at any time throughout the year.  This organization provides a service that literally saves lives every day of the year…it's pretty amazing."
