Job listing by Naughty Dog could mean PC support is on the horizon

Is The Last of Us coming to PC?

Oh boy, here comes another megaton from one of Sony’s most-beloved in-house developers. Naughty Dog, the highly-acclaimed studio behind industry-defining titles like Uncharted and The Last of Us are hiring programmers, which is hardly out of the norm, but the job description is suggesting that ND might plan to release a game outside the PlayStation ecosystem.

The gaming landscape is experiencing a monumental shift in terms of decade-old conventions. Platform exclusives are becoming rarer these days with major platform holders openly starting to support multiplatform releases in an unprecedented way. Microsoft started this trend in a big way in recent years by announcing that every Xbox Games Studios title will become available on PC day-and-date.

Since Microsoft is firmly entrenched in the PC scene, many gamers thought that only Xbox was venturing outside of a closed console ideology going forward. But just last week, credible journalist Jason Schreier dropped the bomb that Sony is following suit by bringing Horizon: Zero Dawn to PC this year. A massive shock considering that Sony has for the longest time been lauded for their very strong first-party lineup.

Now, new evidence is rising that Horizon won’t be an outlier. A job posting by Naughty Dog is suggesting that the high-profile Sony studio is looking to bring one or more games to the PC. The job listing in question is here and as you can see, it asks for “Thorough understanding of current GPU architectures (AMD GCN, NVIDIA CUDA)”. This might not sound like much but when you consider that the PS4 and PS5 are powered by AMD silicon, the mentioning of Nvidia hardware is a dead giveaway for prospect PC support.

Rumors about a standalone The Last of Us multiplayer game have been swirling around for a while now and this recent finding is fueling the rumors significantly. With Sony planning to push their next-gen home console this Holiday, chances are good that 2020 has incredible news by Sony in store for us.
