While San Diego Comic-Con stole most of the spotlight this weekend, there was a fairly big announcement made in Ireland at Galway Film Fleadh.
Speaking in an interview during the popular Irish film festival, actor John C. Reilly confirmed that he's signed on for Wreck-it Ralph 2, a sequel to 2012's hit animated film in which a video game villain sets out to fulfill his dream of being a hero. Of course, his quest to become a "good guy" brings havoc to the whole arcade world in which he lives.
Created by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Wreck-it Ralph was a major success, grossing over $470 million — $189M domestically and $281M internationally. Though Disney hasn't officially given the film a greenlight, you figure that kind of success would warrant a sequel. Reilly's announcement that he's signed on for sequel pretty much confirms a sequel is in the works.
The question now will be what will the movie focus on? Part of the charm of Wreck-it Ralph was that it was a "bad guy" villain trying to become good. Now that Ralph ***SPOILER*** realized he is a "good guy" despite his job as villain in the game Fix-it Felix, what could the focus possibly be on? A good guy wanting to be bad? Or maybe some iconic video game character will get kidnapped and Ralph and friends will have to go on a quest to save him/her — you know, some generic plot created so that Disney can milk a sure cash cow.
