Jon Bernthal’s ‘Punisher’ might be getting his own Netflix series

TV Line reports that Jon Bernthal's take on 'The Punisher' is being perceived so well, that Netflix executives are 'this close' to pulling the trigger on a spinoff series of the Marvel character. Netflix nor Marvel has yet to comment on the matter, so no one knows if this will actually happen.
But viewers will get to see their first look at 'The Punisher' in season 2 of Daredevil which Bernthal's role as The Punisher will not be as a character working with Daredevil, but as someone Daredevil finds himself up against in season 2.
The friction between the two is understandable, regardless of the fact that they share a common goal; cleaning up the streets of Hell's Kitchen. The Punisher will be dolling out death, which is something that Daredevil is against. They could set aside their differences and go against a bigger, more major villain – but there has been no reveal that suggests that thus far.
For people who don’t know too much about 'The Punisher' here is the official backstory brought to you by the Marvel Universe: Frank Castle, his wife, Maria and their children were in New York's Central Park for an afternoon picnic when they witnessed a Mafia gangland execution; an informant had been hanged from a tree. Seeking to eliminate all witnesses, the Costa crime family murdered them on the spot. Details on how Netflix will portay 'The Punisher's'  backstory has yet to be announced.
If 'The Punisher' does receive his own series, he would be the 6th Marvel character to get a series on Netflix. Daredevil kicked it all off, Jessica Jones followed, with Luke Cage expected to release later this year, and Iron Fist wrapping it all up sometime in 2017, which will then conclude to the formation of 'The Defenders.'
New characters like Jon Bernthal's 'Punisher' and  Elodie Yung's 'Elektra' are some of the new characters to be introduced, but familiar faces like Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil Deborah Ann Woll as Karen page, and Elvin Henson as Foggy Nelson will all be returning; check out the trailer for season 2 of Daredevil above.
Daredevil season 2 returns to Netflix on March 18, 2016.
