Joseph Gordon-Levitt is going to dance his cares away and worry another day, because Variety is reporting that he will produce and star in the live-action Fraggle Rock movie from New Regency, Lisa Henson, and The Henson Co.
Fraggle Rock is the 1983 TV series created by the late Jim Henson about creatures that live in caves called Fraggles, and their adventures with the industrious Doozers and furry, giant Gorgs. A movie has been in the works for almost 10 years, and it was set up by New Regency in 2011.
From Variety:
“The first screen personas I ever loved were Henson creations, first on ‘Sesame Street,’ and then on ‘Fraggle Rock,'” Gordon-Levitt said. “Jim Henson’s characters make you laugh and sing, but they’re also layered, surprising, and wise. From Oscar the Grouch, to Yoda, to the Fraggles. I’ve never stopped loving his work, even as a young frisky man, and on into adulthood. Collaborating with Lisa Henson makes me confident we can do something that Jim would have loved. I’m grateful and excited to be working with New Regency on this project.”
My family and I love Jim Henson, The Muppets and all of the Henson properties, so I'm personally very happy to see Fraggle Rock getting some love. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is perfect to star in it, too — much like how Jason Segel was the perfect person to bring The Muppets back to prominence. A great reason to be excited about Joseph Gordon-Levitt joining the film? He can sing and dance.
