Journey will take you on a magical adventure on Steam come June 11

Thatgamecompany’s seminal adventure game Journey is headed towards Steam on PC. The news comes via the publisher Annapurna Interactive and marks the end of the game’s one-year timed exclusivity on the Epic Games Store. Steam users can look forward to June 11th when Journey is slated to launch on Steam.

Now, here’s a throwback to the heydays of the mighty PlayStation 3. Sony managed to pull off a monstrous comeback after a disastrous launch, not the least thanks to publishing extraordinary titles towards the end of the console’s life cycle. One of those highlight games was Journey. Back in 2012 when it originally came out, the walking sim and indie scene were still an oddity. Thatgamecompany managed to wow the gaming world with an utterly serene experience unlike anything else before it.

Explore the ancient, mysterious world of Journey as you soar above ruins and glide across sands to discover its secrets. Play alone or in the company of a fellow traveler and explore its vast world together. Featuring stunning visuals and a Grammy-nominated musical score, Journey delivers a breathtaking experience like no other.

Fast-forward almost a decade, and the quintessential adventure game made the jump to the PC by way of securing Annapurna Interactive as the platform publisher. But what could have been a magical moment was overshadowed by the news that Epic made a deal with Annapurna and secured – among others – Journey as an exclusive to their PC storefront/client EGS.

Nonetheless, as it turned out, Epic’s partnerships were for the most part timed-exclusivity deals, with the majority of EGS exclusives launching on Steam six to twelve months later. Journey is following this trend to a tee by arriving on Steam pretty much exactly one year after it came out on the Epic Games Store. Still, all’s well that ends well. If that means more people get to experience one of the hallmark titles of the last console generation, the wait will be worth it.
