In the Harry Potter universe, one of the most iconic characters other than Harry Potter himself is Professor Dumbledore. The professor serves as a mentor for Harry and even has an interesting background that was explored in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them book.
Last year, an adaptation of the book released but didn't really focus on Dumbledore. However, it seems he'll play a pretty big role in the sequel as Warner Bros. has cast a very big name to play a younger version of the character.
Variety reports that Jude Law will fill the shoes of the Hogwarts professor prior to him becoming the headmaster of the wizarding school.
“Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him,” Director David Yates said. “I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.”
The CCO of Warner Bros. Toby Emmerich added on to Yates' comments.
“As fans ourselves, we are thrilled to have Jude Law joining the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ cast, playing a character so universally adored,” Emmerich added. “Jude has been a member of the Warner Bros. family for years and we’re excited to embark on this new adventure with him.”
The sequel to Fantastic Beasts will be the second in a five film series which will star Johnny Depp, Eddie Redmayne, and many others. The script for the sequel is being penned by J.K. Rowling, the author behind the Harry Potter series.
