In its second week of release, Jurassic World has broken three more box office records.
Having an estimated worldwide gross of $981.3 million as of Sunday, Universal reports Jurassic World — currently sitting at $987.2 million — will officially cross the $1 billion box office milestone today — just 13 days after its theatrical debut. If true, that would make Jurassic World the fastest film in history to reach the milestone.
Jurassic World has also grossed $400 million domestically, four days faster than the record The Avengers set back in 2012.
And thirdly, Jurassic World's second week gross of over $104 million is the best second week box office performance for any film.
With no signs of slowing, Jurassic World is well on its way to joining the $500 million domestic box office club, a feat accomplished only by four other movies in history: Avatar, Titanic, The Avengers, and The Dark Knight.
I think many of us expected Jurassic World to perform well in the box office, considering Universal Pictures spared no expense when it came to marketing the film, but to have such record breaking numbers on par with Avatar and Titanic is pretty mind blowing. I guess that's just the power of dinosaurs and Chris Pratt.
