‘Jurassic World’ congratulates ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ on new box office record

As many had expected, Star Wars: The Force Awakens smashed box offic records this weekend. Final numbers for the J.J. Abrams-directed flick came in today, with The Force Awakens posting an all-time industry-high of $247,966,675 domestically and $281 million internationally for an all-time record global debut of $529 million since its opening day (December 16th).

And just as the Marvel team congratuled Jurassic World when the film broke The Avengers' record for biggest opening weekend of all time, the Universal Team did expressed the same sentiment to those involved in The Force Awakens.

Jurassic World producer Frank Marshall tweeted an image of a Tyrannosaurus Rex bestowing a medal on BB-8 along with the message: “Universal Pictures, Steven, Frank and Colin congratulate Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the biggest opening weekend in galactic history.”

The friendly toast shouldn't come as much of a surprise as Marshall, Kathleen Kennedy, Steven Spielberg, and J.J. Abrams have personal and professional relationships that date way back. In fact, Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy have been married since 1987. Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow is also set to helm Star Wars: Episode IX.

Moving forward, it will be especially fun to keep track of these two franchises' box office performances, especially since neither seem to be slowing down any time soon.
