Jurassic World has officially been given a sequel, which shouldn't come as much of a surprise given the film's success in the box office. The sequel is set to arrive to theaters on June 22, 2018 according to Universal Pictures.
Jurassic World co-writers Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly will write the new film, so don't expect any story details yet. We can say, however, that both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will return to reprise their roles as Owen and Claire. It's unclear if Bryce Dallas Howard's heels will make an appearance.
Although Trevorrow is on board to write, he likely won't be directing the sequel as he's rumored to be directing Star Wars: Episode 9. Steven Spielberg will again act as executive producer, and Frank Marshall will return as producer.
This week, Jurassic World passed Marvel's The Avengers to become the highest grossing movie of all time, right behind Avatar and Titantic. The film has grossed more than 1.522 billion globally at the box office, so clearly the sequel has a lot to live up to.
