Keiji Inafune proves fans still want Mega Man by shattering Kickstarter goal in just 2 days

Capcom might not want anything to do with Mega Man anymore. However, since Capcom owns the rights to Mega Man, the series creator, Keiji Inafune had to go a different route to make something new and awesome happen.

Just two days ago, Inafune launched a Kickstarter for Mighty No. 9, a sidescrolling shooter/platformer that's very reminiscent of Mega Man. The description of the game basically reads like a Mega Man game.

You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk. Run, jump, blast, and transform your way through six stages (or more, via stretch goals) you can tackle in any order you choose, using weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet!

This Kickstarter is great for two reasons. Firstly, Mega Man fans will be delighted that the series creator himself is making a new game, in the spirit of the old Mega Man games. Secondly, and almost more importantly, it will prove to Capcom that love for Mega Man is far from dead, and that these games are still relevant.

The Kickstarter already surpassed its $900,000 goal today, and with 29 days to go, we'll be seeing some awesome stretch goals, which include more stages, New Game Plus mode, a making of documentary and even console versions of the game.

If you want to show your support for Mighty No. 9, head on over to the Kickstarter and let's all make sure those awesome stretch goals happen.
