Keiji Inafune Leaving Capcom

Keiji Inafune has announced on his blog that he will be leaving his current position as the head of research and development and contents manager at Capcom to pursue other plans at the end of the month, according to AndriaSang. In addition, he will also be stepping down as CEO of Deletto.

Known mostly for his work on Mega Man as the Blue Bomber’s character designer, Inafune is stepping down because he currently believes that he has lost the authority to evaluate his subordinates, as well as the qualification to speak about his dreams.

As a software creator, he believes that he’s accomplished everything that he’s set out to do. “It would probably be good for me to sit gracefully in this seat and become a leading figure in the industry. However, I cannot do this. Settling down means death for a creator. As long as you are a creator, you cannot settle down.”

Inafune also added that he won’t be staying on board as a consultant either, shooting down any questions if he was willing to take any lesser positions.”Capcom must, from here on out, walk without me. I too cannot depend on Capcom.”

Although it isn’t precisely clear on why he has suddenly decided to step down, it appears that he came to this decision last month as 4gamer posted an interview with Inafune that was conducted at the end of September, holding it off until Inafune made his official announcement.
