What rank are you in League of Legends? Platinum, Diamond or maybe Master/Challenger? If you are looking to go back to University on someone else's dime, your rank in League of Legends matters.
Initially, only one University was offering a scholarship program for skilled League of Legends player, this University is known as Illinois' Robert Morris University (we have the same last name, hook me up!). Seeing as the scholarship program treats League of Legends players as part of the athletic program, the RMU League of Legends team will receive the same benefits as other RMU athletes: coaching, staff support, tutoring, scholarships of up to 50 percent tuition and 50 percent room and board.
Kentucky's University of Pikeville is joining RMU in its League of Legends scholarship program. There will be "at least 20 scholarships" and will be treated like other student athletes. "They'll have to have a certain GPA," said media director Bruce Parsons of the University of Pikeville. "We'll look at them like student athletes. There will be practice time and video time when they have to study other teams for upcoming competitions." This program for League of Legends athletes at University of Pikeville will begin this fall, as will the official League of Legend tournament competitions.
What do you think of scholarship programs for skilled competitive gamers?
