Space-exploration sim Kerbal Space Program 2 will not come out before 2022. Developer Intercept Games confirmed the delay on the official game forum. Fans who want to get the sequel to one of the best indie games will have to hold out longer.
News of the delay actually came to light from the publisher Private Division’s parent company Take-Two. Or rather, their recent financial report where the release window for Kerbal Space Program 2 states the fiscal year of 2023. Shortly afterward, the developer confirmed it.
It’s not enough to deliver a bunch of new features. We’re creating a reliable foundation on which players and modders alike can build for another decade or more. That involves solving problems that have never been solved before, and that takes time. – Intercept Games
Back in 2013, the first KSP revolutionized how deep a simulation game could be. Just as the title implies, players control the entire space program of the adorable Kerbal alien race. Experimenting with rocket designs and learning about the real-world physics behind space travel made the game an instant classic.
Private Division unveiled the sequel last year with an original target to launch spring 2020. That didn’t happen and the game was pushed to fall of 2021. Sadly, even that isn’t enough time to fulfill the intended vision it seems.
Kerbal Space Program 2 aims to improve the already-deep feature set of its predecessor with massive inclusions of colony building and interstellar travel. Seeing how deep the game already was, it’s only relatable that the game takes so much time.
Still, this second delay hurts. Not only because the new window is so far off. There simply is no other game that offers a similar experience. As such, there really is no other choice than muster up additional patience.
