Creator Ragnar Tørnquist (The Secret World) and Red Thread Games are aiming to complete a long-unresolved cliffhanger.
The previously announced Kickstarter for Dreamfall Chapters, the sequel to adventure games The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, has arrived, and the developer is asking for $850,000 to fund the title, called Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey (oy, these names). It "continues and concludes the gripping story of Zoë Castillo, the Dreamer."
Oslo, Norway-based studio Red Thread is focusing on the game after more than six years. It has licensed the rights from publisher Funcom and will work independently on the release.
Below is a quick checklist of the game's features:
- Experience a deep and complex storyline that continues the epic saga of The Longest Journey and concludes the Dreamer Cycle that began with Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
- Explore a beautiful, rich, detailed, interactive and living world that mixes a cyberpunk vision of the future with magical fantasy, along with a broken and decaying dreamworld
- Play as three different characters, all on journeys across worlds, through life, and into their own hearts and souls
- 3D point-and-click interface and engaging puzzle gameplay designed for fans of adventure games
"With Dreamfall Chapters, we are combining the best parts of The Longest Journey and Dreamfall in order to create what we hope will be the greatest game in the saga so far; a game filled with mature dialogue and challenging puzzles, exciting exploration and intricate investigations, complex and fun characters, thrilling plot twists, and a story designed to engage and move players," the Kickstarter reads.
Red Thread has brought in core members of the team, including Dag Scheve, the co-writer of Dreamfall, and Christer Sveen, the art director. New hires include people who worked on The Secret World.
