Killing isn’t the only option in Fallout 4

Bethesda wants to support the way you play

Bethesda's game director Todd Howard has been talking about Fallout 4 quite a bit recently – he dropped a ton of information during QuakeCon and has gone into detail on how ‘Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System’ (VATS) has changed in Fallout 4 earlier this month.

VATS will not pause the game this time around, instead the game will continue – only at a slower pace
making Fallout 4 "feel great as an action game.” Even though the game will be more action packed, that doesn't mean that the only option in Fallout 4 will be death to all foes.

In an interview with The Guardian, Howard revealed that Bethesda will be supporting alternative play styles in Fallout 4.  “You can avoid [killing] a lot,” he says. “I can’t tell you that you can play the whole game without violence – that’s not necessarily a goal of ours – but we want to support different play styles as much as we can.” This concept isn't entirely new to Bethesda as it was possible to beat Skyrim by avoiding most battles and Fallout: New Vegas could be beat with a single kill.
