Killzone: Shadow Fall campaign ‘well over 10 hours’, perfect for newcomers

Those purchasing a PlayStation 4, possibly becoming a first-time PlayStation owner, will be happy to know that Killzone: Shadow Fall — a highly anticipated PS4 launch title — will require "no knowledge of the Killzone universe" when playing the campaign.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has compiled a list of fan questions for Guerilla Games Steven Ter Heide, game director of the highly anticipated PS4 exclusive Killzone: Shadow Fall. Most notably, Killzone: Shadow Fall is considered a great entry point to the franchise.

"In many ways, Killzone Shadow Fall is a fresh start for the franchise," Steven Ter Heide said. "The game takes place some thirty years after the original Killzone trilogy, so most of the characters and story arcs from those games have passed into history."

Shadow Fall is technically the sixth game in the entire Killzone series, and is the fourth for home consoles. Making its debut as a launch title for the PlayStation 4, this is undoubtedly welcomed news for those who may be new to the PlayStation family.

Despite taking place so far after the original trilogy, Ter Heide is confident that "die-hard fans will appreciate the nods to earlier Killzone titles."

As for the actual length, Ter Heide revealed the campaign should last "well over 10 hours for most gamers." Unfortunately, the campaign will not have a co-op mode, though the studio has plans to release a separate online co-op expansion pack after launch; it will add a wave-based game mode that supports up to four players. There's also no plans for split-screen support.

And in other, possibly more exciting news, multiple developers today have acknowledged that Killzone: Shadow Fall has gone gold, meaning it's now complete and can be sent off for duplication and distribution. So that's exciting!
