Killzone: Shadow Fall getting four-player co-op next month

Guerrilla Games has announced Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept, a new expansion for Killzone Shadow Fall.

Coming next month, the new expansion will add a four-player online co-op mode which places you and the group on the elite VSA team known as Intelligence Squad Alpha. Operating behind enemy lines, your mission is to intercept and relay Helghast military transmissions back to VSA headquarters. It sounds like it's going to be wave-based as you'll need to keep the Helghast away for however long it takes to establish a Hacking Uplink and transmit the data.

The mode offers unique Combat Roles ranging from close-quarters Assault and mid-to-long range Marksman roles to supportive Medic and Tactician roles. To successfully fend off the enemy, you're going to need to work as a team, Guerrilla Games producer Poria Torkan says.

Team Score will indicate how close you are to establishing a Hacking Uplink. You can increase it by defending your Uplinks from capture attempts, or by "banking" the Personal Score you've accumulated from kills, ability uses, and recaptures. If you lose an Uplink or have to respawn after critical injury, your Team Score will, of course, suffer. If all members of your group die and your Team Score is too low to allow respawning, the mission ends.

Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept will come with four arena maps inspired by locations from the single-player campaign. It's launching this June and will be available for free for Season Pass holders. A standalone version of the co-op mode will also be available later this year.
