Kinect Star Wars R2-D2 Xbox 360 Bundle Could Release February 2012

The Limited Edition Star Wars Xbox 360 Kinect Bundle, which was announced in July of this year, but pushed back to "next year" (2012) due to a delay in the Star Wars Kinect game, might finally have a release date.

Several retailers have begun listing the Kinect Star Wars game with a release date slated for February 7, 2012 – which means the custom Star Wars-themed Xbox 360 bundle could have a release date around that time as well, if not the same day.  Walmart actually has the Star Wars Kinect bundle scheduled for a February 7th release, while Kmart only has the Kinect Star Wars game for that same date.  Online retail giant Amazon still has the game listed for December 31, but that is highly unlikely and probably just a placeholder.

The Star Wars Xbox 360 Kinect Bundle is every Star Wars fan's dream console.  Featuring a custom R2-D2-themed Xbox 360 Console with custom sounds, a white Kinect Sensor, and a custom C-3PO gold plated controller, this is the ultimate nerd bundle.

The bundle was first announced back in July with a retail value of $449.99.  However, a Microsoft spokesman told OXM, in August, that the console bundle would be delayed "beyond holiday 2011."

At the time the spokesperson said, "Microsoft and LucasArts have elected to move the launch of Kinect Star Wars beyond holiday 2011 to ensure the full potential of this title is realized. This move applies to both the Kinect Star Wars standalone game and the Kinect Star Wars Limited Edition Console. We will communicate additional timing information at a later date."

The move was likely due to poor showings of the Kinect Star Wars games at big gaming events like E3 and Gamescom.

Although, with the recently released ESRB for Kinect Star Wars, it looks like the game is in full motion and the February 7, 2012 release date could be legit.

The bundle will retail for $449.99 and includes the following:
  • Kinect Star Wars game
  • Custom R2-D2-themed Xbox 360 Console with custom sounds
  • White Kinect Sensor
  • Custom C-3PO-themed Xbox 360 Wireless Controller
  • 320 GB Hard Drive
  • Xbox 360 Wired Headset
  • Kinect Adventures game
  • Exclusive downloadable content
