20th Century Fox's Kingsman was a pleasant surprise, both to fans of the Mark Millar/Dave Gibbons graphic novel and to the studio, raking in $413 million worldwide. Naturally, that warrants a sequel, and with star Taron Egerton set to return, we've now got confirmation that Kingsman 2 will hit theaters on June 16, 2017.
The date places Kingsman 2 in between World War Z 2 and Wonder Woman. With more formidable competition this time around, it'll be interesting to see how the studio handsle its. Obviously, an R-rating may put a ceiling on the film's potential, but a PG-13 rating — while broadening the market — runs the risk of losing its core audience.
Details for the story of the film remain scarce, but director Matthew Vaughn and screenwriter Jane Goldman are both reuniting for the sequel.
