Nintendo today announced Kirby: Robobot Planet, a mechanized take on the pink mascot slated to release on 3DS June 10.
The game plays on a LittleBigPlanet-esque system of foreground and background, but retains the series’ iconic absorption ability. Nintendo promises over 25 unique powers for Kirby to swap between, including several new additions.
Aptly titled, Robobot Planet will feature a Kirby mech which can be used to plow through destructible environments. The mech will work in tandem with Kirby’s absorption ability, repurposing enemy powers as over 10 “modes.”
Robobot Planet was revealed alongside Team Kirby Clash, a multiplayer and decidedly RPG-inspired take on the series. The game pits teams of up to four players against several bosses, with each player assigned roles such as healer and DPS. As players progress, they will gain experience and power up their respective roles. Team Kirby Clash will be included with Robobot Planet, but will also be available independently via download play. Outside of multiplayer, Kirby Clash will feature a single player mode with AI partners.
Rounding out today’s pink suite, four new Kirby amiibo were revealed: Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede and Waddle Dee. All four will add unique abilities and costumes to Robobot Planet.
Kirby: Robobot Planet will support multiple amiibo, including many with character-specific abilities. Tapping the Mario amiibo, for instance, will grant Kirby the fire ability.
