Earlier this year Konami made headlines by removing Hideo Kojima's name from Metal Gear boxes, this was news because Kojima is the Metal Gear creator and director, and his Fox Engine powers the games. After all was said and done, Konami revealed that they would be moving forward with the Metal Gear game series, with or without Kojima.
It doesn't look as though this will be happening.
Following the news that Konami's director of technical strategy, including its multi-platform Fox Engine., Julien Merceron, has left the company, it has been revealed that Konami will cease all AAA development efforts — except when it comes to Pro Evolution Soccer (PES).
The report initially came in from a French website and has since been corroborated by Eurogamer. Konami has yet to comment on the situation, but it's interesting to note that they recently delisted from the New York Stock Exchange. If Konami is truly ending their support for AAA games, their plans for future Metal Gear games have been scrapped, as well as any Silent Hill games.
Metal Gear Online is still set for an October 6th release, with the PC version to follow in 2016 and should release without interruption.
