Konami unveils Anniversary Collection trio of its all-time classics

Japanese game publisher Konami has announced three Anniversary Collections containing some of the legendary publisher’s most beloved games. There’s going to be dedicated collections for the Castlevania and Contra franchises and another one featuring arcade classics. All three are planned to come out for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch for just $19.99.

Konami is a juggernaut in the gaming industry even if in recent years, the company has made some very questionable and outright hurtful decisions. Of course, we are talking about the insane spat the company had with arguably their most-known developer Hideo Kojima. After canceling the highly promising Silent Hill reboot with Kojima at its helm, both parties infamously parted ways in 2015. Despite all the recent controversies, Konami is still holding an insane library of classic games and as such, the news of some notable franchise and games getting rereleased in Anniversary Collection series is a great step.

The start will make the Anniversary Collection Arcade Classics on Apirl 18th, containing 8 cult classics from the heyday of arcade gaming. On top of that, a bonus e-book is also going to be included which features developer interviews, art-work and more. The games in this collection are as following.

Anniversary Collection Arcade Classics:

  • A-Jax (aka Typhoon)
  • Gradius
  • Gradius 2
  • Life Force
  • Thunder Cross
  • Scramble
  • TwinBee
  • Haunted Castle

The two remaining Anniversary Collections will follow suit and release in early Smmer and will feature games from the Castlevania and Contra series. Each will also have 8 games but only 4 have been unveiled today, with the remaining to be disclosed at a later point. These are the known games.

Castlevania Anniversary Collection:

  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse
  • Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge
  • Super Castlevania IV

Contra Anniversary Collection:

  • Contra
  • Super Contra
  • Super C
  • Contra III: The Alien Wars

It’s great to see Konami enabling an entirely new generation to experience these classics and even more so that these collections are coming out for every gaming system out there. The enticing low price of only $19.99 is the icing on the cake.
