The version of King Kong we'll see in the upcoming 'Kong: Skull Island' is expected to be a towering 100 feet tall.
Last year, it was announced that following the success of 2014's Godzilla, Universal had begun planning not only a sequel slated to release in 2018, but a rebooted King Kong picture entitled Kong: Skull Island. The news was made all the more fascinating by the fact that the titular characters would eventually meet in a shared universe crossover event, Godzilla vs King Kong, the remake of the original '60's movie.
This revelation left many wondering how such a feat would be accomplished. The most recent incarnations placed King Kong at roughly 50 feet tall, while the newest Godzilla was big enough to cause tidal waves and knock building out of his way…hardly a fair fight. It was recently revealed that 'Skull Island' director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, plans to level the playing field by giving us a Kong bigger than we've ever seen before, coming in at a whopping 100 feet tall.
“This is going to be the biggest Kong there’s ever been. Not 10 foot or 30 foot, but a 100-foot ape.” -Jordan Vogt-Roberts
Bearing no connection to Peter Jackson's 2005 remake of King Kong, the new series of movies are expected to completely reimagine how we look at monster movies in the context of the popular shared universe format we have today. 'Kong: Skull Island' will feature a star-studded cast including Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly, John Goodman, and Samuel L. Jackson.
