Kyle Chandler returns to the monster-verse in ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’

He squared up with Kong. Let's see how he does with Godzilla!

Kyle Chandler, formerly of Peter Jackson's 'King Kong', will be returning to the monster-verse in 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters'.

With 'Kong: Skull Island' right around the corner, hype for the new Legendary Pictures shared "monster-verse" is all too real. With the first film already established in 2014's 'Godzilla', the stage is about to be set for the latest incarnation of King Kong. The overall plan is to bring the two mighty titans together for an epic match-up for the ages. Before the planned 'Godzilla vs King Kong', a sequel to 'Godzilla' is on its way, entitled 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters'.

The cast is steadily being filled out, most recently with 'Stranger Things' star, Milly Bobby Brown, but it was also announced that the role of her character's father will go to Kyle Chandler. Chandler is best known for his roles in 'Friday Night Lights' and 'The Wolf of Wall Street', but some may remember him as the self-absorbed actor from tinseltown, Bruce Baxter, in Peter Jackson's 'King Kong' from back in 2005. The roles are in no way related, but it could be an interesting parallel seeing him as part of the epic showdown from a different perspective.

There's still no updates on the rest of the cast, but 'King of Monsters' will be directed and co-written by Michael Dougherty and is slated for a 2019 release before 'Godzilla vs King Kong', which is scheduled for 2020.

Kong: Skull Island releases March 10th!
