L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files for PS4 leaked from PEGI rating

It looks like 2017’s PC virtual-reality crime-adventure game L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files is headed towards the PlayStation 4. This comes after a rating for a PS4 version emerged on the European game rating board PEGI.

modiz, a user on the gaming forum Resetera found out that the VR spin-off for Team Bondi’s detective game L.A. Noire appeared on the PEGI website as a PS4 title. The website has long removed any traces for this leak but here’s a screencap of the leaked rating.

As you can see clearly, this rating is specifically for the PlayStation 4 version of the game. You’ll also notice that as the release date August 12th is stated. This is very likely a placeholder date and this the game has not come out yesterday.

L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files came out exclusively for PC VR headsets in late 2017, and was notably absent on consoles via PlayStation VR. A rather strange move since the VR spin-off game was created by Rockstar, who has a rather console-friendly stance. If anything, PC users usually get the short end of the stick in form of late ports or getting no love at all. Just look at the absence of any Red Dead Redemption game on the platform.

Nonetheless, L.A. Noire is a peculiar case. The regular game came out last-gen but failed to set the gaming world on fire, despite offering a very unique experience. Unlike Rockstar’s other crime-heavy game series GTA, here, players are on the other side of the desk and try to solve or prevent crimes. No chaotic murder sprees or car thefts. Instead, you play as Cole Phelps, a police officer in 1940s Los Angeles.

The game got a second chance at success when it was ported to current-gen consoles in 2017, just around the same time as L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files. Maybe Rockstar was trying to reinvigorate the series with a port and a VR game. Either way, PS4 VR owners are likely going to get their own version in the near future.
