Nigoro has launched a Kickstarter campaign for La-Mulana 2, the sequel to its archeology-adventure game La-Mulana.
The Japanese developers are asking for $200,000 in crowdfunding and are already nearly halfway to their goal, with $80,000 and counting pledged so far. La-Mulana 2 is headed "primarily" to PC in 2015 and will feature gamepad support. Playism Games is assisting with localization.
The first La-Mulana appeared on PC in 2006 as a hobby project. Nigoro remade it for WiiWare and PC in 2011.
"While the game received a Metascore of 87, we felt it was a shame the remake did not offer anything new to seasoned players of the original game," the campaign page reads. "We heard comments from gamers saying, 'I wish I could develop amnesia and enjoy it for the first time all over again!' more than once. That’s why we decided it was time to revisit La-Mulana and create a new game."
La-Mulana 2 has players assuming the role of Lumisa Kosugi, who's investigating the ruins of Eg-Lana, home to monsters such as the Guardians.
"It's true that La-Mulana 2 is a sequel, but we want to make it enjoyable both for people returning to the series and newcomers alike," the Kickstarter reads. "While 'You don’t need to have played the prequel!' is a horribly overused cliché, we feel it’s appropriate here. We want all players to be able to play and enjoy our work."
