Latest Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain patch adds paid FOB insurance

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was recently patched in order for Metal Gear Online to be implemented into the game. While the update brought a lot of good, new things to the table, such as Grade 7 weapons and better rewards for Combat Deployment, one change doesn't quite sit right with me.

Players will now have the ability to buy FOB insurance with real money. For those scratching their heads, FOBs (Forward Operating Bases) are player made bases that can be invaded by other players. Those players can then steal materials and staff, which can certainly be infuriating. Now, for a price, players can buy insurance that will ensure any materials or staff stolen, will be given right back. That way both players benefit. The attacking players gets the stolen goods, and the defending players has it all refunded back.

This is from the official site:

Your FOBs are always at risk of coming under attack. Now, you can rest easy with FOB insurance (paid service). If you sign up for insurance, then during the insurance period you will be compensated for any materials and staff lost due to rival infiltrations.

  • Staff/materials stolen by the rival will in fact remain on your base, and an identical amount of staff/materials will be handed over to the rival instead.
  • MB Coins are purchased with real money, but free MB Coins are also distributed periodically as login bonuses, etc.
  • The following are not covered by FOB insurance:
    • Staff/items that are not fully your property, such as abducted staff being held in your Brig (FOB)
    • Wounded staff (staff lost due to death or extraction will be compensated)
    • Staff used by you to deploy in defense of the FOB (neither death nor extraction will be compensated)
    • Nuclear weapons

Here's a pro-tip. If you want fool proof FOB insurance for free, simply go to the Options menu, and select Offline Mode. Boom! I just saved you whatever absurd amount of money Konami is charging.
