Launch Trailer for metroidvania La-Mulana 2 explores ancient ruins

La-Mulana 2 is finally arriving. It took 5 years of patience for fans of the ruin exploration puzzle-platformer to get their hands at 2013’s sequel and today is that day. Developer Nigoro is celebrating the PC launch with a great new trailer. Check it out!

The original La-Mulana, while most likely known in its 2013 worldwide PC release, actually had a fascinating development tale. More than 13 years ago, in 2005, did the original La-Mulana release in its first form. Back then, it was only available in Japanese and looked very different, with a significantly less sophisticated visual make-up, imitating the classic look of MSX games. A proprietary PC platform popular in Japan in the 1980s.

It took a fan-translation for the niche title to receive attention among gamers in the West. But once it did, Playism funded a remake by the original creator Nigoro. After a lengthy development period, La-Mulana became available for fans worldwide as an almost completely overhauled and redesigned game. It received great reviews and sold respectably across PC, Wii and the PS Vita.

What could have ended there, continued in form of a crowdfunded sequel. Playism and Nigoro once again teamed up and created a Kickstarter for La-Mulana 2 in 2014. The Kickstarter campaign was a success, not only financially but it also showed that there were plenty gamers eager for a new experience in the vein of La-Mulana. After all, La-Mulana made a name for itself as a rather cryptic and unforgivingly challenging game.

Japanese developer Nigoro again took their good time in crafting the second La-Mulana. 4 years after the successful Kickstarter, La-Mulana 2 is ready for release. This time, players will play as Lumisa Kosugi, daughter of explorer extraordinaire Lemeza Kosugi and protagonist of the first La-Mulana. Lumisa, just like her father, is venturing on an adventures journey to explore the secrets lying in the ruins of an ancient place, La-Mulana.

La-Mulana is releasing today for PC. You can get your copy through Steam or GOG for $24.99.
