Layoffs strike developer Crystal Dynamics

Square Enix has eliminated about a dozen jobs at Crystal Dynamics, the developer of this year's Tomb Raider reboot.

"We've made some decisions at Crystal Dynamics this week around the second project we're working on, which has resulted in a small number of roles — roughly 12 — becoming redundant as we rescope the project," the publisher told Joystiq today.

The company called the changes "absolutely necessary" and said it would help those affected by the cut. The layoffs will not disrupt development on the Tomb Raider sequel, which is currently underway.
